Every wildlife and nature photographer has a list of must-see destinations. Just like anyone who feels best when they travel. For many of them, Africa is the ultimate destination. For anyone who loves observing and photographing wildlife, it just doesn’t get any better.
Africa has long been the setting of many great stories and probably one of the most important reasons is that it still looks like a fairy tale. Anyone who grew up fascinated by the amazing wildlife shots from Nation Geographic knows what I’m talking about. In a world with a growing number of endangered and extinct species, Africa is a wildlife oasis.
Without doubt, Kruger National Park and the MalaMala Game Reserve are two of the best places to photograph wildlife on the continent. MalaMala was actually recently named the second best park for wildlife in all of Africa. It’s probably the best place in the world where you can still photograph wild leopards, so it’s no place to go for a picnic. Traveling to the wildest parts of Africa should only be done with proper guidance.
Professional wildlife photographer Max Waugh knows Kruger and MalaMala well and on his photography tours the group is given unique opportunities to photograph animals in their natural environment.
It’s no surprise that film crews from all over the world, including those from National Geographic return to MalaMala regularly.
Many of the most popular African species will be encountered on the tour’s visit in Kruger, the park that is the size of the state of New Jersey. There’s nothing quite like seeing lions, elephants and giraffes in the wild. Nor can you forget encountering and endangered species like the white rhino or the African wild dog. There are also many species of birds living in Kruger which makes photographing the diversity of wildlife a real challenge.
Max designed this photo tour to be a fun adventure that is all about exploring. It’s not one of those typical hard-core photography workshops. Instead, it’s going to be about the joy of discovering this magnificent place. It’s an ideal for first time African adventurers, but it’s also perfect for people who simply want to observe wild animals through binoculars instead of a high performance DSLR.
But for those who want to return home with that lifetime shot, Max will happily share his experience. He will provide advice for various lighting situations, as well as well sharing the best strategies for photographing from a vehicle and from various hides.
Participants will have the opportunity to share their work with everyone in informal critique sessions.
