Bird photography is spectacular and you don’t even have to be that much into birds to love it. It’s just so exciting to go searching for a species in its natural habitat. You have to be stealthy and silent but you also have to be incredibly agile and ready to take the perfect shot. Good gear helps, but it’s a lot more about skills and patience. Most of today’s DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are fast enough to help you track and shoot a bird in flight. Anything that can do at least 5 frames per second should be fine. A long lens, preferably longer than 200mm is essential. If you’re an amateur or a hobbyist, you probably don’t have access to a pro level high speed lens. That just means you’ll need to practice a little more to get the perfect shots. But once you get the hang of it, gear won’t even matter so much.
