Let’s face it: time lapse photography can be confusing. With rigs that require a Ph.D. to set up properly and gear that you can only afford if you put a second mortgage on the house, it has historically been something reserved for only a small percentage of photographers.

But not now.

I’m extremely excited about the future of time lapse photography thanks to the affordable and innovative products being put out by New Zealand-based company Syrp. Their latest product, the Pan Tilt Bracket, is just another in a long line of must-have gear if you’ve got an interest in time lapse photography.

One of the hallmarks of high-quality time lapse photography is the ability to record images with two-axis movement. In the past, this was a difficult endeavor, but Syrp has made it a process that literally takes only minutes to set up, but with a smooth result that looks like something only a seasoned pro could possibly create! See for yourself:

Syrp’s Pan Tilt bracket is designed to work with two Syrp Genie Mini motion control devices. One Genie Mini is attached to a tripod, with the pan part of the Pan Tilt Bracket attached to the Mini. Then, the tilt component of the Pan Tilt Bracket is attached to a second Genie Mini, which, in turn, is attached to the pan component of the bracket. Then it’s a simple matter of attaching your camera to the bracket, attaching the link cable to your camera and Genie Mini, and syncing your Genie Minis via Bluetooth.

From there, you control the motion of the devices from the handy Genie Mini App. The app will register that you’ve got two Minis, one in pan mode and another in tilt mode. The app comes with pan and tilt presets built right in, so you can begin taking time lapses right out of the box. Of course, you can also set up your own custom time lapses by using the Genie Mini App to make adjustments to the record time, play time, and the interval at which the photos are taken. Use your phone’s touchscreen to easily establish the start and end points of the pan and tilt. You even get to preview the movement of the device so you’re sure that when you record your time lapse, it’s perfect.

As if the ease of use wasn’t good enough, Syrp has gone even further by making their products highly affordable. In fact, the Pan Tilt Bracket is only $89, so you won’t break the bank outfitting yourself with the gear you need to make breathtaking time lapses. Even better, you can get the complete kit that includes two Genie Minis, the new Pan Tilt Bracket, and a few other accessories, all for the price you’d pay for a single inexpensive lens for your camera. You’ll be ready to rock, and for a price that’s really quite hard to believe!
