A few weeks ago, I put together my top 10 list of the best camera straps of 2018.

That list included a wide variety of camera straps, from very expensive full grain leather straps to budget-friendly options that might not have a ton of bells and whistles, but still get the job done.

In that article, I quickly reviewed a new camera strap I recently purchased from Hyperion Camera Straps.

Now that I've had a couple more weeks to work with this strap, I wanted to do a more in-depth follow-up review. Here's what I learned...

A Budget-Friendly Camera Strap

Though you can easily spend a couple hundred dollars on a camera strap, not everyone has the budget to do so.

Instead, there's definitely a market for high-quality straps that won't break the bank, and Hyperion certainly makes a strap that fits the bill.

In fact, many Hyperion straps are less than $20, so you get the benefit of having an upgraded camera strap without feeling like you've drained your bank account to get one.

Even their premium leather straps - like the Cinnamon Braided Leather Strap shown above - are well under $30, so no matter which model you choose, you're getting a budget-friendly camera strap.

Handmade Quality With a Story

Aside from excellent prices, something else that caught my eye about Hyperion camera straps is their unique construction.

Made of thick, round cordage, these straps evoke thoughts of climbing ropes. And just like climbers trust their lives to the quality of the ropes they use, you can bet that you can trust a Hyperion camera strap to keep your camera safe.

Better yet, Hyperion makes each and every strap to your specifications. That means that you get the exact strap that fits your needs, whether it's purple or black, cord or leather or one of any of the other hundreds of available combinations!

An interesting factoid about these straps is that they began as a labor of love.

Initially, company founder Pavlos Koutsoukos started making these straps as a personal DIY project for his own cameras.

Then, friend after friend approached him to make a strap for them, and the rest is history.

Now Hyperion sells straps to photographers all over the world. What a great story!

A Great Combination of Functionality, Durability, and Aesthetics

This is definitely not your typical camera strap, and I'll admit that I had some reservations when I ordered it. I just wasn't sure how I'd like the corded material and how it would feel under long-term use.

After using this strap on a recent trip to Boston and New York, my concerns were unnecessary.

The cordage is incredibly durable and strong, which is nice to know when you're carrying around an expensive camera!

It's functional, too. I can wear it around my neck or across my body. Hyperion also makes wrist straps if that's more up your alley.

These straps look really, really good, too!

I know that how a camera strap looks has little or nothing to do with its usefulness, but still, it's easy on the eyes.

And like I mentioned above, you can choose from hundreds of combinations of colors, that way you get a truly custom-made strap that looks just how you want.

That level of customization is definitely not something all camera strap companies offer, especially at this price point.

Is This a Hit or a Miss?

As far as I'm concerned, Hyperion Camera Straps has hit it out of the park.

Usually, when buying a budget-friendly camera strap, there's some sort of compromise somewhere - in the quality, the durability or the comfort.

But in this case, Hyperion manages to meet all of those needs while keeping the strap a very friendly price.

Like I said earlier, I had some reservations about how this strap would feel after shooting for several hours, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was as comfortable as it is good-looking.

If you're in the market for an upgraded camera strap, I can't give a better recommendation than Hyperion!
