We've all been in a situation where we were asked to give away our photography for free, or worse for "exposure."
But, not all of us answered these requests in such an incredible way as the ladies from Betrothed & Co.
The Initial Contact
The Betrothed & Co. email received an odd, condescending request from the assistant of an unnamed social media influencer.
In the email, the assistant requests days and days of work for free. She also mentions how hot the offer is, so as to remind the ladies to respond as quickly as possible.
Betrothed & Co. was not having it.
They open by stating the assistant had obviously made a mistake with the amount of followers her boss has. There's no way they could be making such a ridiculous request for the exposure to only 50,000 people.
They continue that if the influencer would be okay putting a clause in stating she would be up to the 500,000 followers by her wedding date, they may think about shooting the wedding. They politely remind the assistant that if the clause is not met, then the influencer will pay the roughly $4,000 of free photography she's asking for.
The ladies finish the email with an obvious assessment of how ridiculous it is to try and get them to race to book the influencer's wedding for free.
Apparently, It "would Of" Been a Very Lucrative Wedding
As petty as I am, I always get a kick out of a spelling or grammar issue in petty email rants.
The influencer's assistant chimes in that the wedding "would of (sic)" been a very lucrative one for Betrothed & Co. Unfortunately, Betrothed & Co. is not having it.
If it's not enough to request a free photoshoot for exposure, then we might as well play the cancer card?
Editor's Tip: Starting a photography business? Save money and buy quality used gear. You can save hundreds if you buy a used camera and used lenses, and apply those savings to investing in other gear. Better still, a great way to watch your bottom line is to sell or trade in your old gear that you no longer use. Doing so minimizes how much gear you have to keep track of, and if you sell or trade in your gear, you have some spare money to put towards upgrading your kit. It's a win-win!
We're all wondering who the influencer is, of course, but unfortunately Betrothed & Co. never received another email after calling out the assistant for being racist.
