I love how after being gone from here for almost three weeks, I can recognize certain photographers work without even having to look at the name. You guys are really good. Thanks for the inspirations.
I just posted a new topic but put it in the wrong place. It is in "New to Photography Talk" and I meant it to go in "The Lounge" Thank you. (or you can tell me how to do it)
I just uploaded a photo of my first attempt at a "portrait" style shot. I cannot figure out how to put it here for critique. It come over way to large. Please take a look at it and let me know what you thing. She was just so beautiful I couldn't help myself.

For most cameras (Nikon, at least) shooting JPG will not get you any more performance from the camera. That's because it still captures a raw image but then has to process it to product the final JPG. So, essentially, you're making your camera work harder by shooting JPG.
And even if you suck at post, you could use LR to do very, very basic, highly automated tweaks and probably end up with something you'll like better. Software is software; it only know what it's been taught to do. And that isn't always the right thing.
