Over the years, I've been asked many, many times about my thoughts and impressions of various photography-related companies. It comes with the territory of being CEO of one of the largest photography communities in the world.
And though I have worked professionally with many photography companies (or been a customer), it would be impossible for me to have first-hand experiences with every photography company out there. This means that there are a lot of companies that offer excellent products and services that I've never worked with, and some that I've never even heard of before.
A great example of this is Printique.
I had no idea that Printique was owned by Adorama. This was surprising news to discover because I've worked with Adorama for years. I turn to Adorama to buy my gear, and I've recommended them for your camera-buying needs for the better part of a decade.
Once I learned that Printique was part of the Adorama family, I had to speak with the folks I know there to get the details about what Printique offers.
They kindly offered to send me a print so I could do a thorough review.
I had originally wanted a 40x60 print, but then I decided it would be more fun to get two 20x40 prints - one to keep for myself and one to give away.
In a few weeks, I'll post a YouTube video that features this print, and I'll announce the details of how you can enter to win this very print from yours truly.
For now, though, you can read my thoughts about this print, my experience with Printique, and learn more about this company.
Let's get started!

Printique Metal Print Review
Since this was my first metal print (or any kind of product, for that matter) from Printique, I had no idea what to expect.
Based on the reviews of previous customers, I was pretty confident that the print I got in the mail would be a slam dunk...but you never know.
I have to say that when I unboxed this print, I was completely blown away. From moment one, you can't help but be impressed with the quality of this image. Sometimes the simplest terms are the best...all I can say is WOW.
To give you a little context, this is my favorite image from a trip I took to Lake Tahoe last year. It was taken at Sand Harbor Beach at sunset.
It was actually an interesting endeavor to get this shot. I had originally set up my cameras looking east away from the sunset to get a shot of the sunset colors illuminating the mountain peaks.
But as I stood there, I realized that there was an incredible red glow forming all around me. And as a testament to always look behind you when you're shooting, I turned around to see one of the most incredible sunsets I've ever witnessed.
My sunset app said there was a good possibility of excellent colors that night, which is why I hunkered down to wait for the sun to set rather than heading to the hotel after an exhausting day of travel. I'm glad I did!
I didn't particularly like the spot I was in for a shot looking west, so I grabbed my gear and sprinted around, trying a couple of different locations before remembering that Sand Harbor Beach would be a perfect location for a sunset photo.
Thankfully, I was only about 100 yards from the spot I chose, so I was able to set up my gear and fire off some shots without missing out on the intense vibrancy of the red colors of the setting sun.
I think this spot on the beach worked out very well...the water was like glass, the boulders in the foreground provide a lot of interest, and I like the silhouette of the snow-capped peaks in the background too.
I wasn't sure if I liked the tree and its reflection on the right side of the shot at first, but now that I've looked at the image in print form, I really like it - I think it adds an extra layer of visual interest that completes the image.
Now for the quality of the print...
Let me start off by saying that I've got dozens and dozens of prints from many different printing companies in my home, so I'm pretty astute at gauging the quality of metal, canvas, acrylic, and paper prints.
Additionally, I started doing some very popular canvas print shootouts a couple of years ago, which led me to do a metal print shootout in 2020. This allowed me to directly compare prints from multiple companies at once. Again, this has helped me develop a good system for analyzing the quality of a print.
When it comes to printing on metal, one of the difficulties is that it's hard to get the colors just right. It's an unforgiving product to print on, so when I was unboxing this print from Printique, my concern was mostly about whether the colors would be right.
Boy, were they ever!
Not only are the colors spot-on, but they look great from a distance and up close. Usually as the size of the print increases, the quality of the colors decreases as you get closer and closer to the print. Not so in this case! It looks just as good from one foot away as it does from 10 feet away.
In addition to superb color rendition, the detail and sharpness of the print are excellent. I love the highlights, midtones, and shadows in this print as well as the white satin finish I chose.
On the back I was happy to see a little "care package" with materials for hanging the print on the wall. It's a nice touch when printers do that...it's like the chocolate on your pillow at a nice hotel!
The frame, which is called a "wall float" - which secures the print off the surface of the wall to create a 3D effect - is both durable and well built. This frame is far superior to most that I have seen before.
One of the things I look for when picking up a print is the edges of the print. I do this for metal, canvas, paper...any substrate. I do this because I want to see if the edges are clean and square or if there is any sloppiness in the construction. Essentially, I look for any "cracks in the armor" before making a determination as to the quality of the print.
Frankly, I've been looking at this print for the better part of six weeks and I haven't found any of those "cracks in the armor" that I usually find.
In fact, I haven't found any flaws with this print. When I do reviews like this, I always look at them with an ultra-critical eye because noting any negatives will only help the review be more well-rounded and informative.
But in this case, I can't find any flaws. Printique has earned a 10 out of 10. This print is all that and more, and certainly one that deserves recognition as such.
This 20x40 print is priced at $208.99 (remember that Printique sent this to me, so I didn't pay this price). Expedited shipping added another $30 to the price tag. The question is, do I consider this a fair price?
Given the incredible quality of the print, I absolutely think this price is fair. I would have been a little skeptical not knowing what to expect, but after getting this print in the mail and unboxing it, I can say with the utmost confidence that it is well worth the price of admission.
As I noted in the introduction, I'll have a video review coming up soon as well as a giveaway of this print, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, head over to Printique to get your own incredible print of your favorite photo!
