I've always enjoyed photography. However my passion was amplified when I picked up my first DSLR (Nikon D90) back in 2008! Personally I find tranquility from having my music in my ears, and photographing beautiful landscapes. Recently my 4 year old son has even shown interest in photography!

I'm looking to take my family up to one of these two cities in 2020.  From a photographic standpoint, which of these is a more interesting city?  Likely in February.

Thanks for the insight.

Here is the final shot I took last night after a so-so sunset.  I was already packed up and started the hike back to my car.  I had my Z7 still on tripod, just in case I found something that might work for a shot.  As I was walking and nearly off the beach, there was enough moisture on the sand from the rain that when the sun pushed out it's color once last time for the evening, this reflection caught my attention.

You can see Catalina Island in the distant background.

Made it down Newport Beach yesterday for the sunset. Colors were forecasted to be strong.  When I got down there, turns out the weather man was incorrect and it started to rain.  Surprise.

I found this small cave to keep dry till the sun came back out. Turned out to be a cool shot waiting!

Hey bud, you rock.  Thank you.

We are aware of that and believe these problems are connected somehow.  The IPOTD is manually fixed, which is why you see it messed up... then fixed.  It's a work around so we don't need to remove it while this problem exists.

Stay tuned!

Hey Gary,  Thanks bud.  Yes the team is already looking into this.  Stay tuned... as soon as we get this bug figured out, I'll let you know.

As always appreciate your understanding and patience!

Alex Schult replied to the topic 'Would you use a 85mm for landscapes?' in the forum. 2 weeks ago

I recently moved from Sony to Canon (still staying with Nikon for primary) and have my eye on the Canon 85mm.  I'd rather have this focal length than 100mm.  It's great for B roll lens, and portraits, but I don't shoot portraits, other than my son and wife.  So, I'd use it for what ever got in front of my lens!  Mostly video :)

:agree:   exactly.  I know these guys, they are very serious about making awesome gear.  I have recently tested one of their tripods, it's very well made.  I ditched the center column as I'm not a fan of them.

Gary brought up 3 Legged Thing, these guys are a riot.  I've met the owner on a number of occasions and he's just one of the most driving entrepreneurs you'll find.

So you are right, Pelican does make a hard case backpack. If you haven't found it, check out  Pelican S115 Sport Elite Laptop

It's not my style, but Pelican does make some great gear.

That's the best time to visit DV based on temperature. Not the sky.

Sanford wrote: Gorgeous shot Alex.  How do you like those filters?  That bracket is only for their filters right? So if you have other 100x150 filters, you can't use with that system?

These filters are pretty awesome.  They really raised the filter market bar.

F-stop doesn't make a hard case backpack.  You might want to check out a company called Hazard 4.  They have some slick looking backpacks that are rugged and have a hard like shell to them.

Good luck!

Hi Macon,

Welcome to the site.  I spent 8 years in the service, however not as a photographer.  I started out as 12B and spent last 4 years as 96B.

So I can't comment on what your son may or may not experience as a photographer in the Marine Corp.  Actually I have a brother who was a Marine.  He might know.

I did find this video about 25V MOS... this might help you
