John G Schickler replied to the topic 'Canon is now leading the mirrorless market Sony?' in the forum. 3 months ago

I think this is an open question that begs for qualification. Adding is eastern sales does seem to give Canon and "lead" overall. The newest small full-frame mirrorless is an interesting move by Canon to capture additional market for the future. It provides an entry point that is unique and will, like the original EOS Rebel, build a new following. This will be an interesting subject to follow over the next couple of years.

I have been using TPE since it was a desktop Pgm only. Love it.

Both of those companies have good reputations but I’m not sure if they deal in printers. Canon has some very affordable printers. Avoid an all-in-one to get one specialized for photo printing. There are some newer ones that use ink tanks instead of cartridges that are more expensive but may save money long term if you use it a lot. I have a B100 and quality is impressive at the price. It handles up to 13x19 paper.

Amazon does not make anything but money, just like Walmart. They throw out an offer to supply the cheapest item and sell it. 99% garbage.

+1 on Affinity Photo for iPad. Check out the how-to videos on Vimeo and YouTube. The cost is incredibly low and the app is amazing.

John G Schickler replied to the topic 'Costco film developing - they lost my film roll!' in the forum. 5 months ago

I have done A LOT of business with Costco, both film and digital. The only issue I ever had was a power outage years ago while my film was actually in the processor. Lost that roll. I believe now they sent film off to a central location to be processed. Other than that I have never even had to have a reprint like I did with a custom lab. Even had my "Best of Show" print made there.

Went for a walk to get some last shots of flowers before the first frost in Nova Scotia with my 5DmkIII and old Sigma 90mm macro. This was not the best of them but it was the last one.

Lexar decided to drop SD cards for other ventures. However, some Lexar execs launched a new card company ProGrade.

John G Schickler replied to the topic 'Whats your go-to camera and lens?' in the forum. 8 months ago

Often my walk-around combo is the Canon 70D with the 18-200mm. That said, I change depending on what I am shooting. This week it was a Canon 5DmkIII with a Sigma 90mm macro capturing the last wildflowers on the season. For wildlife, I use either camera with a Canon 100-400 or Sigma 150-600. I usually have the other body with a wider lens in the case.

John G Schickler replied to the topic 'Camera for sale at Costco - whataya think ?' in the forum. 8 months ago

Great price. Costco usually has a 15% markup on most items and when the run sales it is about the best you will get. And their return policies are exceeded by one one. I have the 60D, 70D and 5DmkIII. This one is a slight update from the 70D on which I have over 100K clicks. The lenses are EF-S so they would not be usable if you decided to go full-frame later. That is not a deal killer since I bought all EF single lens so they will work with both lines.
