Jared replied to the topic 'F/2.8 lenses as important today vs F/4?' in the forum. 10 hours 44 minutes ago

Yes to many no to some.

For me myself and I speaking for myself, weight savings is more important than the extra DoF so I use F4 lenses. They're just as sharp and I never find myself wanting in the field.

Its really all about you. What's your style? Are you an outdoor photographer? Are you OK with the extra weight? Lots to consider, but there is no "more important" max aperture.

Nope. I actually added a light blue filter effect to the GND in Lightroom because the colors didn't look realistic. The area I was in is quite dusty due to the farm fields and cows kicking up dust, so the horizon catches a lot of color even on a more clear evening.

The results of last night's hike on the Oolite trail in Grand View, Idaho. This is usually people's first experience with the Owyhee Uplands and the unique geology that can be found further down Mud Flat Road. This formation is the world's biggest example of Oolite sandstone and was formed millions of years ago when ancient Lake Idaho dried up, forming the Treasure Valley. This formation represents part of the ancient shore line with many petrified sand dunes to walk around on. The rock is very fragile and many honeycombs, domes and arches can be found on the cliff face as the wind scours away the weakest stone.

C/C is always appreciated. Just keep it relevant. What you see is what you see, there's nothing I can add and nothing I care to take away, it's a sunset, my focus point was on the yellow bush in the foreground. The rest was intentionally left out of focus.

Went to Portland this past weekend for a company seminar. Disappointingly, it was just pissing down rain and all of the trails above the falls are still closed due to erosion as the area struggles to recover from the devastating Eagle Creek fire of 2017. During one of the brief breaks in the weather, I captured a few images of Multnomah Falls. This is the first time I tried using the Orton Effect on an image. C/C is always appreciated, just keep it relevant. For instance, it's a long exposure, Im going for sort of "fine art" look with the Orton Effect and so on and so on.

Finally back at my desktop. Here's the improved images. I played with the radial filter, brought out more from the shadows from the under the pier, added contrast and desaturated, warmed and dropped the tint a bit.

Relevant C/C is something many people struggle with on this forum in my experience.

This is hyperbole, bit I've seen many offer C/C similar to: "This is a good image but it would be better if you managed to put a giraffe in a tutu in the frame!"

That would be a good thread for a discussion and some teaching: C/C 101.

garyrhook wrote: They're blue, they're dark, they're long exposures. That's the whole point, right?

The clouds seem to not have been moving much in the 2nd shot, which is unfortunate. I like to see the smooth water with the streaky clouds. But that's a nit.

I do think some D&B on the structure to add some interest might be nice.

Overall, another good job.

Yup! I'm loving the moody, long exposure shots lately and I feel like they work well for this location.

I think the exposure on the 1x1 crop was closer to a minute. Probably should have gone longer.

I see what you mean, they're a little dark even with the radial filter applied. I'll repost with some adjustments soon.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm not following. What does that mean? What's not natural about the image?
