Curved screen, ultra-wide view, high definition professional monitors are the current big thing for photo and video editing. For good reason, too, as we’ve discussed in multiple articles. The ViewSonic VP3481 34 inch monitor is one of the top choices for many professional photographers and videographers, I use one myself.
Continue reading for my ViewSonic VP3481 review to see if this professional monitor may be the one for your own editing.
ViewSonic VP3481 Cons
I must warn you, there is a learning curve with the use of curved, ultra-wide screen monitors. The first time you use one, you will feel that it looks a little odd. The reason it feels odd is entirely due to its most obvious feature, the curved screen.
This has nothing to do with the screen but instead with how we have become used to using other screens. We are used to looking at either a smaller monitor or flat monitors that may be wide requiring us to look across to the edge or corner of the monitor and are used to the small distortion caused by doing this.
Another tick in the con column is also caused by being curved, it’s bigger than you might have expected. Of course a wide curved screen is going to take up more space, have a bigger footprint. That’s simple geometry. But it is also thicker from front to back at any point on the monitor than some other large (but flat) monitors I have tested.

Once you get used to the curved screen, that isn’t a con anymore. The immersive viewing experience makes the slight curve feature the very first item on the list of pros concerning ViewSonic VP3481 features.
Immersive viewing is the primary reason to use a curved screen monitor for video and photo editing. It gives you more than simply information such as exposure or sharpness, it creates a feel of being inside the image or footage so you can have more control of the editing process.
After the immersive viewing experience, I would wager most readers expected my ViewSonic VP3481 review to highlight its ultra-high resolution and high definition. However, I have to talk about how blown away I was by the color on this monitor.
ViewSonic VP3481 color is truly remarkable. The ViewSonic VP3481 specs show it is capable of showing 4.39 trillion colors and the accuracy of the colors is superb. You can also fine tune the color fidelity with a color calibration tool to ensure you are seeing true colors in your editing studio.
Detail and Sharpness
Having a larger view doesn’t help out much if the view isn’t sharp. Low resolution coupled with a large view can also lead to severe eye strain which isn’t much fun at all. ViewSonic VP3481 performance exceeds expectations in regards to image detail and a clean, sharp view.
Depending on the original resolution of the image file or recording, you can edit in the sharpest mode and then switch to lower res settings to preview how it will be seen by viewers using a variety of devices.
Workflow and Ports
The ViewSonic VP3481 has plenty of inputs of several different types so you can use it with virtually any device such as a computer, mixing board, camera, or memory device.
That already improves your workflow but you can also tile windows with different programs or parts of a program. Might as well take advantage of all of that real estate that the ViewSonic VP3481 large, curved, ultra-wide screen gives you.
After using the ViewSonic VP3481 34 inch curved screen ultra-wide high resolution monitor for several months for both videography and photo editing, I can highly recommend it as your next monitor or monitor upgrade.
