Why I Prefer Canvas Over Paper Prints

- These Canvas Print Options Can Make or Break Your Print
I prefer canvas over paper prints...and I know that this is sort of a controversial opinion. A lot of people in the canvas vs. paper debate say that canvas just isn’t a medium that works for whatever type of photography they participate in.
But one of the reasons why I prefer canvas over paper prints is that I strongly believe printing on canvas makes your photographs look more professional, regardless of what the photograph is of.
I also prefer canvas over paper prints because they just last longer. I’m hoping to pass a lot of my photographs on to my son as family heirlooms, and I worry that if I were to get a less durable print, they may not last long enough for me to do so considering he is very young right now.
I can name dozens of reasons why I will always purchase canvas over paper prints, but you can keep reading this photo print buyer’s guide to read about just a few of them.
They Last Longer
I think this is probably one of the more popular reasons why photographers choose canvas over paper prints. They last longer.
This isn’t to say that a paper print can’t last a long time, but eventually your paper print will fade. If you don’t take good care of it, this fading happens sooner rather than later and can be detrimental.
But, when you purchase a canvas print, depending upon where you do so, it can last for well over a century. I, for one, am not sure where the world will be in a century, but I’d love to leave a little piece of my current family behind for it.
They Move Easily
Another reason people choose canvas over paper prints is that they are less bulky. If you do opt for a paper print, you’ll need to get that paper print framed and a lot of frames that are actually going to protect your paper prints will do so at a cost. They are typically quite heavy and bulky.
The wonderful thing about canvas is that it is incredibly lightweight. You don’t need to frame canvas prints, so you only need to worry about moving the canvas itself.
For photographers who move a lot, this is a great benefit of canvas over paper prints. For photographers who like to redecorate frequently, the same is true.

They Look Professional
The first time I chose canvas over paper prints I was working for a family that I really wanted to impress. This was, of course, years ago when I was just getting started in photography.
In order to make myself look more professional, I opted to splurge a little and buy a canvas print for this family. It was definitely the right decision. When I saw the look on their face as they opened up the box, I knew that they wholeheartedly trusted my expertise as a photographer.
Canvas prints can look more professional than paper prints. I also think that they’re versatile. When you print something on canvas, it immediately turns into fine art, as opposed to staying on paper.
I’ve printed just about every subject on canvas, and each time the medium adds some pizzazz to my photos.
They Are Inexpensive (If You Work With the Right Company)
A lot of people will argue that if you opt for canvas over paper prints, you’re also going to be opting to spend a lot more money.
While I’ll admit that you definitely will be spending more, you don’t need to spend a lot more so long as you choose a good canvas printing company.
One of my favorites, CanvasHQ, offers canvas prints starting at just $20, and considering the fact that every canvas frame is hand-built in house at CanvasHQ and the fact that each canvas uses archival-grade inks, this is an absolute steal.
Those archival-grade inks are made for outdoor use, which means you don’t need to be worried about storing your canvas prints in a humid climate. Likewise, your canvas won’t be damaged by sunlight as easily as a paper print would be. In fact, so long as you hang your canvas out of direct sunlight, CanvasHQ offers a lifetime guarantee on your canvas because they are so confident it won’t fade.
CanvasHQ also offers much better customer service than any other printing company you’ve ever used before. To start, they offer free touch-ups on all of your photographs. So, if you accidentally send in the incorrect photo, they’ll catch it.
They also have a countdown on their website which lets you know exactly how long the production of your canvas print will take if you sent your image in today.
For people who aren’t sure about choosing canvas over paper prints, CanvasHQ offers a full refund for 30 days after you’ve purchased your print because they are so certain you’re going to love it.
You can head over to CanvasHQ now to order your first canvas print. I promise you’ll never do anything else.
