Opinion of tilting LCD camera screen

I'd like to hear your opinion.  I just got back from meeting up with some photography friends where I got to try out a buddies Canon EOS 60D that had a tilting LCD screen.  Honestly at first I thought this might be cheesy gimmick feature, but after messing around with the camera, I was hooked on the added functionality that this offered.  I was able to get very low shots on the ground with out having to lay on my stomach.  High shots and still able to frame up my shot.  Interesting feature, I think when I buy my next camera, this will be a function I'm going to look for.  Thoughts?

To me it really depends on whether or not you use Live View. For me I hardly use my LCD except for the normal chimping to make sure I am not having a brain dead kind of day with exposure. So no a tilting screen does not matter to me at all. I still get on my belly for shots, in any condition, and I have never been in situations where I needed to shoot over my head. I know I am not a whole lot of help on this one, but you wanted opinions, and mine is it is a gimmick that I do not need.

I do think having a tilting LCD can be helpful.  Especially at my age, I hate getting down on the ground.  The only negative is the added parts that move around and could break.

My D5100 has an articulated screen, and I like it. But not for those reasons. I, too, get down on the ground when I need to, if possible. The other day the ground was too muddy and I was not where I could clean up, so I used the screen and Live View. It was not nearly as effective for me as the viewfinder. However, it's useful for selfies (with a wireless remote) and when I'm using a tripod and need to chimp.

So overall, I think it's a useful enough feature.

Sony NEX 6 has tilting screen and it does come in handy.  It doesn't get used a lot, but when it does, it's appreciated.

Both my 60D and 70D have this feature. Now, it would be tough to be without. Not only shooting from low angles but also high angle. I can get above a fence or a crowd with the camera on a monopod and use a remote. Nice to be 8ft tall at times. :)

I feel that what ever you like and what works for you just go with.  Everyone has different preferences.  Personally, I don't mind about getting low down and on the ground.  Knee pads and elbow guards help.  However, the LCD tilting screen has been helpful for me on a couple of occasions.
