Photographing lightning without a trigger?

1 month 4 days ago #763202 by Pettigrew
Morning everyone.  When it comes to photographing lightning, can this be done over and over again without a trigger?  I've seen some photographers with some amazing lightning strikes captured, and I'm curious are these being captured with or without a lightning trigger?

Time exposures (Bulb mode)  work quite well - no trigger needed.

:agree:

Leaving the shutter open in the dark won't result in an overexposure, and it will capture the lightning when it does occur.

My husband use to shoot lightning with nothing more than dragging his shutter.  He was able to get some decent shots that he was happy with.  8ish years ago he got one of those 'lightning triggers', which is the actual name of the company and device.  With that trigger, he shots went from good to amazing.

You can do it with no trigger, but having and using a trigger will make your life SO MUCH easier

Never tried without my Miops trigger.  I can say with the trigger, it's super easy
