Are we supposed to drain down batteries completely?

Are there any circumstances where you should drain down your camera batteries completely before a charge?  I thought I read something about this last year towards my beginning.  Now I did find a post here that said you didn't need to, but I can't find that post and I wanted to revisit and honestly just make sure.  Actually I'm curious in the 'why' if possible.

Thank you all, your help has been so appreciated.

Not with the battery technology they use now. Optimum is try to keep them between 20% and 100%.

No, not even the NiCads!

I go down sometimes to 2~5 % and it has no consequence.
Important is to recharge them ASAP!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

G'day Alfonso

Your Q is a bit open-ended ... so I will simply say that I use my Li-ion batteries until the battery image starts flashing red, sometimes I am still busy and the camera shuts down when the battery is completely flat. Then it is swapped and into the charger while the other one goes into the camera

All my batteries (I have 6 batteries used over 3 similar cameras) are treated the same way and have not shown any difficulties

Hope this helps

+1 todays batteries are pretty solid where you don’t need to worry about that.  On top of that the chargers do all the work and have all sorts of safety built in to prevent over charging.
