E.ZUIKO 100mm

Hello, I have an E.Zuiko  100mm 1:2.8  auto-t  (manual  focus)  lens.  The  aperture  stays  fully open no matter where the  aperture ring is set.  If  I  move  & hold  the  aperture  lever on the mount, it operates correctly.  It stays open  to the max.  f/stop  either on or off  the  camera  ( cam  is  an olympus  OM1).  I  think  something is wrong.  The  spring  & blades seem to be working right. Any  ideas ?     Thanks,   Rich   :S

Nothing is wrong. Lens will stay wide open to help make focusing easier. It will only stop down when the camera moves the lever. This is why they put DOF preview switches/buttons on cameras.

Thanks for the answer. I'm used to my Nikon lenses which operate a little differently .. Have not used the olympus in a few years; it just puzzled me.

Hmm.. Unless it's a very, very old Nikon lens, it should work the same. If the didn't work that way, there would be no need for DOF preview buttons on cameras. I know my old Minolta, Pentax and Nikon lenses worked that way. That's what the little lever is for. The camera moves it to close the lens down for exposure when the shutter button is pressed.
