I am thoroughly in love with this camera. I originally owned a K-7 and decided to sell it to upgrade to the K-5. The reason being that the K-5 took everything I loved about the K-7 (ease of use, durability, intuitive design, great feature set, etc.) and improved upon it by addressing one of the major quibbles I had with it: low light performance.

The K-5's ability to shoot at high ISO is simply terrific. It's low light performance bests my Canon 5D Mark II and rivals--if not even slightly exceeds--my Canon 7D. The K-5 (and the K-7) are camera bodies that just FEEL good in the hand. They are built like a tank, and it shows the moment you pick one up. And such complete weather sealing is amazing for a camera at this price point.

But a solidly built camera would be nothing if it didn't perform...and the K-5 performs. For me, the controls seem intuitive and well thought out, meaning I can focus on making photographs, not finding settings. It is responsive to my needs. When paired with the fine, fine Pentax lenses, the image quality is simply terrific. Even the kit lens is an admirable performer.

Every time I pick up my K-5 and hold it in my hands, I am inspired to make photographs. I know this is a very subjective point, but it's one I feel important to make. Like I said earlier, it just feels good and right.

Wait a minute... isn't the 5DII high ISO better than the 7D? 5DII is like 1 stop (at least) better than the 7D... :nunu:

Here we are 10 years later and my wife is still shooting a new to her K-5ii, and we have our original K-5 as a back up.

It's still great carer a 10 years later. Not surprising since at the time of release it was #6 of all the cameras in the world according to DxO, and still is top 50.
