That's what  this Robberfly likely thought of me as I got in it's face...

Good photo. I had to eradicate some of those last year for getting too many of my local bees......

Why so serious?

Very good. Over on flickr the EXIF shows a 105. Did you use an extension tube as well?

.No Gary... While I have tubes, I rarely use any of them... This shot was at minimum focusing distance & then cropped in post... The Robber Fly let me run off 17 images before it flew away. It did move to a new perch a few times, but I followed it. I approached it slowly, refocusing & shooting off frames as I got closer in. I then cropped it in post . The D7100 with it's 24 MP allows for good resolution even with pretty severe crops... If you saw the other images of it on Flickr, you can see approximately how much I cropped it as there are a few others at 1:1..

Great shot! The eyes on flies never cease to amaze me. They remind me of a fencing mask.

If you look closely, you will see that the little wasp had some sort of meal in it's grasp too...

Yep, still alive... I got pretty close. Shot at life size & cropped in post... I rarely shoot dead insects, normally only if I happen to find one I can't get images of when they are alive ... If you look at my Flickr stream, you will lots of images of Robberflies as we have many species around here...
