Whats your opinion of the Nikon Df?

I'm a D800 owner and want a second body.  I must admit I'm tempted by the looks of this camera and on the fence.  B&H is selling for $2747.   Which is pretty close to what I paid for my D800.  Whats holding me back is the performance, the continuous shooting is only 5.5fps.  Considering the camera is 16.2MP, you would expect that speed to be greater.  How do you feel about the camera?  Do you see the price going down any time soon?  I might check KEH to see if they have used.

IMO much ado about nothing. Worthwhile if you have AI lenses you want to use. If want want faster FPS you'll need to go to the D4, of course, which is still 16 MP. And you get to give up video.

I will never understand why an old-style, overpriced body has any attraction. I mean, ergonomics exist for a reason, right?

YMMV. Maybe the upcoming D800s will have a higher FPS rate, although I doubt it.

Gary, you don't need this model to utilize older Ai/AiS lenses... Any Nikon over the D200 can use them... I do on a D300 & a D7100 daily... That said, I this the Df is overpriced for what it is.

Huh. Apparently I've misunderstood something along the way.  Why do I keep seeing discussions of "converting Ai lenses"? I guess I don't know what that means.

Betcha those discussions are really about converting non-AI to AI.

The Nikon Df is compatible with non-AI Nikkor lenses. (although certain non-AI lenses are not compatible)

Roughly the same cost as a D800? Yes, VERY overpriced. Aso, correct about the older lenses. I've used most of my forty year old glass on my D700, just need to focus manually.....(Never forgot how, anyway)....

Yeah that is correct. The non/pre AI lenses are flat on the mounting side of the body, and jamb, or break the meter coupling, you know that little tab on the body that rotates near the mounting seat. To convert a pre AI lens you have to grind a notch into the base of the lens body. The only thing that makes me even want a Df is that feature, because I have a few pre AI lenses it would be nice to use. I am hoping that Nikon institutes that feature on all of the new body releases. Then you could use pretty much any of the F-mount lenses on your bodies then.

Honestly not looked into the DF much, I like the idea of an old style body, but from what I've heard, it's not quite good enough for the price.

IF they made it smaller, simpler (more manual controls) with a short flange distance so you can put on all sorts of lenses... maybe even a range finder or somehow make it optimised for manual focus lenses, then I'd actually be interested. If you're gonna go retro, give Leica some competition.

Df overpriced and, in my opinion, a snapshooter's camera. Not viable for a second body for any pro work I know of. And if you want to go retro, bring back the SP.
