Did I just hear this correctly? Is B&H and Adorama owned by the same family?

Wouldn't surprise me, Future Shop and Best Buy are same company. Reminds me of the time I had a tour of a bakery, I watched the white bread come along the belt after it cooled and went in bags, There were 4 different bags, each with a different name, but all the same bread.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I believe Adorama is owned by Mendel Mendelowitz and B&H is owned by Herman Schreiber. Both are Orthodox Jews from New York. I have no idea if they are related by blood or marriage.

According to another site (FM ;) ), Henry and Helen discussed the rumors and completely deny any connection between the companies.

If you had ever walked into the stores, you would know there is no way this could be true. Serious marketers vs fanfers

Based on many comments on sites and my own experience, Adorama does a good job of customer service "damage control" but seems to needs to do so more often than B&H. May just be anecdotal by seems to be a common thread on many sites. Adorama seems to carry more "private brand" merchandise so can offer some "price points".

I'm guessing you're referring to my presence on a number of photography forums?

The truth is, Adorama DID fall well behind, and since 2005 - when our feedback at resellerratings.com was a miserable 3.75/10 - we've been working very hard across all departments to improve customer service, shipping times, product range and the layout of our website.
It's not always easy to be compared with any store which is 3 - 4 times our size, but with resellerratings feedback now standing at 9.62/10, we believe that we are headed in the right direction.

I make every effort to keep my profile high and easilly accessible for customers who feel their concerns haven't been addressed, as Adorama (along with the majority of forward-thinking retailers across the globe) believes in maximising opportunities for customers to contact us - via shopping sites, Flickr, blogs, Twitter and Facebook, as well as the traditional route, directly to the main CS department: [email protected]

I have been doing business with both sellers for many years, and nothing is perfect. I rate a seller on how errors are handled, and I put Adorama right up there with B&H, in fact I think the latter mentioned is a FASTER responder, Helen is visible and accessible on many popular forums. My rating is a TEN on both.....;)

Why so serious?

Helen -
You are absolutely correct. You have been very busy, and successful, in turning around your company's reputation. As anyone knows, it is harder to rebuild cred than to maintain it. I have bought and recommended both companies since the improvements.

As a manager, I also impressed upon my employees that our "motto" should be "Exceed Expectations" and it made our team the most respected in the department but also the one every employee wanted to work with.

Thanks for your hard work.

It's possible they're related to one degree or another by marriage but the two companies are entirely independent in every way.

I never even thought they were owned by the same family. The two companies just seem too different. Yes, both owned/run by jews, but the way the way both companies run their businesses is completely different.
