For good B&W photos, will this filter do the trick?   www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home...A3g&is=REG&A=details

If by "good" you mean darker sky, higher contrast, then yes ... if you're shooting B&W film.  The red 25 will give you a strong effect.  You can get a similar, but less strong, effect, with yellow.

If you're shooting digital and converting to B&W, forget it.  Just pull back the green and blue channels when you convert.

Also, if you happen to be shooting people, the 25 is such a deep red that Caucasian skin tones will be completely bleached out.  So for peoples, I would dial this filter selection back to an orange filter.  Which will still lighten up skin tones, just not as much as the 25.

Still if your goal is B&W, using both will perform much better than trying to do all this in post

Hate to tell you this but no the red will not help you in this case. When I first stated shooting with my D50 I tried an experiment with both color, and shooting in B&W mode using filters, and not. The processing was still the same. There were no discernible differences. In fact the B&W shots with the filters were more difficult to get better looking images. The only exception with colored filters are the yellow on cloudy days, or flat light days in bringing out detail. Other than that colored filters are useless, as is shooting in the B&W mode in the cameras. Now it is shoot in color then pull back, or increase whichever color channel you want to accentuate as Bob stated.
