The way I read the article he did.
But yeah he is not the sharpest pencil in the box.

"After setting up the equipment at 7pm on Wednesday, he left it unattended while he traveled back to his home about 120 miles away."

I would have perhaps stayed nearby, but I'm obviously not a pro like this guy.

BTW this is the same guy that did this to his gear:

He must have spent a coin on painting his gear.  It looks well done, at least from the photo.

Canon 5D Mark II, 30D, 40D, 50 1.2L, 16-35 2.8L Mark II, 24-105 4L IS, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L IS, 85 1.8, 4 x 580 EX(II)

*Let me clarify, I think he did a nice job on the detail of his paint work, but I wouldn't want this to my own!

I'm sorry, but who leaves that sort of camera gear alone?

The guy does timelapse stuff for a living and sometimes will leave his gear in one place for years apparently. Kinda interesting, but he should know better.

Ouch, that sucks!  Was that painted to keep it cooler during long time lapse in the sun or for cosmetic reasons?

We had a few in Afghanistan with the same paint job, the coyote brown matches sand better than black frame. Plus the 2 tone black and brown breaks up the outline when viewed from afar. As for leaving it in the rain for 16 hrs, better him than me.
