Fujifilm XT5: Overview
The Fujifilm XT5 is a hybrid mirrorless camera that hit stores in November 2022. It houses a high-resolution 40-megapixel APS-C sensor and an X-processor 5 image processing engine. While it currently retails for around $1,699, you can save $100 or more by buying a Fujifilm XT5 used camera in great condition from a reliable second-hand retailer.
The XT5 is tied with the Fujifilm X-H2S for the highest-resolution APS-C camera on sale today, which makes it a fantastic choice for professional photographers who prefer working with APS-C cameras. That said, thanks to its fast and reliable 425-point hybrid autofocus system and easy-to-use automatic/semi-automatic picture modes, beginners love shooting with it, too.
The XT5 uses the versatile Fuji X lens mount system. At the time of the publication of this article, there are well over 100 lenses (native and third-party lenses) compatible with X-mount cameras. Moreover, the XT5 comes in two colors: silver and black. The silver camera is especially popular thanks to its throwback look.
Now, here’s a closer look at the Fujifilm XT5 specs and key features:
Fujifilm XT5: Design & Handling
As a mirrorless camera, the Fujifilm XT5 already has the advantage of being smaller and more portable than DSLR cameras. Throw in the fact that it’s an APS-C camera, and you get the only camera over 40MP that weighs less than 600 grams. This makes it an amazing camera for traveling, adventure, and outdoor photography.
Another unique design feature that helps the XT5 stand out from cameras from other brands like Sony, Canon, and Nikon is its exposure control dials. Despite its small size, the camera boasts three dials on the top plate—one for shutter speed, one for ISO, and the other for exposure compensation. The dials allow you to quickly and easily adjust camera settings on the fly.
Other notable design features include a 3.0-inch tilting touchscreen LCD and the NP-W235 battery. The tilting screen is good for high and low-angle photography, but an articulating screen would have been better for video. Courtesy of the NP-W235 battery, the battery life of the XT5 is rated for up to 680 shots or over two hours of video recording.

Fujifilm XT5: Imaging Capabilities
Unquestionably, the number one selling point of the Fujifilm XT5 is its 40MP BSI image sensor. With a pixel count of 7728 x 5152, only a few flagship mirrorless cameras best its image resolution. Some examples are the Sony A1, Canon EOS R5, and Nikon Z9. However, all of those cameras cost significantly more than the XT5.
RAW images taken with the XT5 have an outstanding dynamic range (ideal for post-processing), and many JPEG processing options exist for people who don’t plan on editing their photos. Furthermore, various JPEG Film Simulation modes let you recreate the look and feel of classic Fujifilm film styles.
More impressive photography features are the BSI (back-side illuminated sensor), fast burst shooting, and the high-resolution photo mode. The BSI sensor boosts the camera's low-light performance. Continuous shooting tops out at 20 fps with the electronic shutter (15 fps with the mechanical shutter). You can also create stunning 160MP still photos using the high-res mode.
Fujifilm XT5: Video Capabilities
While there’s no denying that the Fujifilm XT5 is, first and foremost, a camera for photography, it also has some pretty spiffy video specs. For example, it boasts 6.2K video, 4K video, and slow-motion video capabilities. 6.2K footage is available at up to 30 fps, 4K at 60 fps, and 1080p Full HD at a mind-blowing 240 fps.
The XT5 is also packed with professional codecs and gamma curves. It can record 10-bit H.265 or 8-bit H.264 video internally and externally. At the same time, you can choose between F-Log2, F-Log, or HLG recording options.
Another video-friendly feature is in-body image stabilization. It utilizes sensor-shifting technology to dramatically reduce camera shake during handheld video recording. Additionally, it improves the camera's low-light performance by adding up to seven stops of exposure to your content. You can stabilize videos further by switching on “IS Boost” digital image stabilization.
On the downside, one thing to note is that the XT5 applies a crop factor to its 6.2K (1.23x), 4K HQ (1.23x), and 4K/60p (1.14x) footage. Since the Fujifilm X-H2S records from the full width of the sensor and doesn’t apply any crop factors, it’s a better video camera for professional videographers and filmmakers.
