Dropbox or copy.com. Not sure about Dropbox, but Copy.com gives you a 15 GB account for free. I use copy.com for images, movies, files and really like it. If another copy.com user refers you, you each get another 5 GB making it 20 Gig for free. Message me if you want a referral.

Why couldn't he put them on a disc and mail it to the person?

If you are transferring the NEF files to someone, then use Dropbox, and work in phases if necessary.

Or use a USB drive and mail it.

Or create JPGs and send those.

I all kinda depends upon the goal, don't you think?

Google Drive > Dropbox

IMHO especially when working cross OS platforms.

Well, sure, except:

Dropbox can be access via a browser, which someone obviates that, and

Google really is evil and we don't like them.

Use the "email photo" utility in LR (File>email photos) It will automatically convert to Jpeg, sRGB, and monitor resolution, and offer you a choice of sizes.

I was going to say Google drive, but then I read "Google really is evil and we don't like them." and had a good laugh and saw the evil monkey!  lol

Very nice to meet you!

Use kraken.io or JPEGmini for a pretty much lossless copy.

I use Dropbox. Drive & hightail are also good. If you use mac the next version of the mail app has a large file function where it uploads the file a presents the receiver with a link at the other end.
