Program mode for lazy people?

9 years 4 months ago #414326 by Crammer
LOL I have been looking at past threads all over the web about Program mode and trying to find out why people don't like it? I've started using it, and feel it comes in handy.  Now most of the time I'm in Aperture priority or Manual.  Well, mostly Aperture mode.  But Program IMO is really good when your not in a 'technical' mode.  When I don't care what the f-stop is.  Parties, fast pace walks with friends or family.  I think there is a good use for this mode.

So why don't you like it?

I never understood why some get worked up over what mode you shoot in.  Shoot in what ever mode you want too or the mode that the situation calls for.

Who said "I" don't like it. I just rarely (never) use P mode, and either way its nothing to do with laziness....

Why so serious?

I used P years ago with film. Now i never touch it. Mostly I use A and lately have been using M more. Nothing to do with lazy, just not understanding how to work the other modes.

I do use it from time to time.  Especially for mixing TTL flash with ambient light.  But that may just be a Canon quirk.  Program mode works differently for different camera brands.

Eh, I don't use it that often.  Frankly don't have much to say about it.

   Oh man here we go.  Anyone have that infographic that shows all the camera modes and what the mean?

IMO every mode on a camera has a time and place.  And that time and place will be different for each photographer.

I always love these questions. My D300 is stuck in manual mode. I do not like the other modes because I think the camera over exposes in them. Now I know some say the you just use EC to compensate, but to me why not compensate with a flick of either, or both of the wheels. Besides I tried the EC once while using aperture mode and forgot. Then I went back to manual, and forgot to put the EC back to zero, so my exposures were all off. With Nikons the EC can be used to zero out your meter when shooting in manual mode. I just know that the middle is not where I want my exposure to be a majority of the time. Well at least with my D300, when it dies I will have to learn what a new body does.

+1  Now I have used program mode, but don't use it much.  Aperture and manual mode is pretty much all I need

I like this mode.  It is good for times when you do not have time to set up your shots.  Animals do not wait for you to mess around with setting.  If you get a picture YOU like then you are shooting in the right mode. :cheer:

I agree, it's all about what makes you comfortable.

I don't get this at all, and I do a lot of wildlife photography.
I have never used P mode because I don't see any advantage of P mode that Manual, or Aperture priority, or Shutter priority do not provide.
