How good of a photographer are you?

8 years 11 months ago #441255 by Francis
I belong to a Facebook group that asked this question a couple weeks ago which lead to some very interesting answers.   The foundation of the answers would need to be in the form of a percentage over your life time.  So if you were to guess out of all the photos you have taken over your lifetime, how many of these would you consider to be really good?

Not as good as I want to be, but better than most people.

I wouldn't even know where to start with a percentage on this one.  Comparing all my photos from all time, I'd say a very, very small percentage.

I agree  Tough question.   I have a better than average knowledge of the fundamentals and the 'science,' and I am always learning more.  The art part, however, is tough.  Sometimes I am lucky; often not.

Seriously, how would you measure this?  It's a good question, a humbling one when you think about it.  However no way of knowing.  To many moving parts.

For me, my best is yet to come.

I'm just a beginner at all of this in the big picture of things, so my number would be very low.  That just gives me plenty of room to grow!

One is never as good as they think.......there is always room for improvement, as perfection is an ever elusive element.

You realize how tough of a question that is to answer? The short answer for me is that I'm good enough to keep me happy and enjoy the hobby.  In terms of how good my all time work is, that is too difficult to even put a legit number IMO.

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

1% of 1% of my photos I would say are wall worthy.  I'm just pulling a figure out of air, it's a tough one to put your finger on.  So, I'll play conservative.
