That's totally me! I wish!!! 
I've gone out on a lake in a kayak to get shots, done photography in basements that spent the better part of a month with sitting floodwater in them (after the water was drained), and will often not hesitate to get down in the snow, sand, dirt, mud, etc. if I have something specific in mind.
The basement shots were while they were demo zones, btw, so there were tools and such flying, it was almost always very slippery, and it smelled like nothing you'd ever want to smell. Hurray flood damage!
