Small things that annoy you thread

A lure complete with hook wrapped around it's beak so it can't eat. I wish we still had our live trap. :(

:( Wish I hadn't read that. My heart melts when I see animals injured or in trouble. A police officer and I rescued a Canada Goose gosling that was tangled in fishing line in the river a few weeks ago. I couldn't just let it go, but I was afraid of getting attacked by the nearby protective parents. I asked a nearby officer who to call and he came down to the river with me to check it out. The two of us together seemed to intimidate the parents, as they moved away. I waded out to the gosling and brought it to shore and the officer used his knife to cut the line. I was teary-eyed when the gosling skimmed across the water to reunite with it's parents.

Two-foot drivers who's brakelights are constantly on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off, on and off ... well, you get my point.

Why are the ads on TV louder than the movie?

Good one. I have some hearing loss. What I want to know is why are the movies so low. Can't they boost the volume like they do for the ads? :woohoo:

People who push to get out of the lift before you only to walk really slowly down the corridor so you can' t pass them (when you're in a hurry).

Happened to be about an hour ago.

Simple:

Because in ads the audio is done in controlled situations and is less variable, so they can have the volume/gain pushed higher and it won't peak out (causing distortion). In a movie, the sounds vary a lot so they have to keep the general volume levels lower or the noisy bits will peak out and distort.

I always thought it was to wake you up during a boring movie so you will see their ad and say, "Wow, I need one of those right now."

Well, now that they've pressed the big 'pause' button on the space program, what have we learned?
We can put a man on the Moon, take pictures of Mars, but we can't control the volume of a TV commercial!

 Very true! I had "build-it-yourself" schematics for a "commercial zapper" that I got from an electronics magazine at one time but didn't know what it was. I know now it senses the rise in volume and clips it, much like the auto level sensor does on an audio tape. That's why some self-recordings have a loud part just when the music starts, then lowers.

Here's one I found online if anyone is interested. It's meant for radio but audio is audio, so it will work for TV as well:

People that post images on this (or any other) site and set them to "private" so no one can view them. If you don't want anyone to see them, don't post them. These are "sharing" sites, not "storage" sites.
