Red Exposure Window on Old Camera, Will it Hurt my Film?

3 years 1 month ago #717168 by AmeliaMae
Hey yall! recently picked up an old Kodak folding camera to mess around with, and I was wondering if the red window to tell which exposure you're on would impact the film because of well, light haha.

I understand that both modern B&W and Colour film are sensitive to light as a whole, so was this exposure window used during a time when film used to be less or non-sensitive to red light?

Should not hurt,  because the type / size of film that is  typically used  in such cameras has an opaque backing paper between the film and the window .
The only likely hurt to film  is  when you  are  loading or unloading the film :  don't do the loading  / unloading in bright light ,  look for a shaded location .

B&W emulsions are actinic and so pretty insensible to
infra-red frequencies.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Sounds good! That's what I was thinking, since the film I'm using is 120 and has the paper backing, but I just wanted to be sure ^^

Be careful, though, reddish shy people will show their
colours even B&W film!
