Maternity Photoshoot Ideas
Whether your client is having her first baby or it's just another in a long line of kids, there's nothing quite like taking her outside for a beautiful outdoor maternity photo shoot.
Not only does it allow you to utilize natural light for your photos, but getting outdoors also gives you plenty of fodder for creating beautiful images.
You can use spring flowers or fall colors as your backdrop, introduce elements like water or sunsets, and the fresh air won't hurt your client (or you!) either.
With that said, here's a few quick and simple outdoor maternity photography ideas.

Outdoor Maternity Photoshoot idea #1 - Use Nature as a Frame
Abba Color Photography
Let's begin with the first maternity photoshoot idea. Incorporating a frame within the frame is a great trick to add more depth and dimension to your outdoor maternity photos.
As you can see above, the frame doesn't have to be overt to have an effect on the image - the hint of grasses in the foreground is enough to give our eye more information about the depth of the scene.
But using a frame within a frame has another effect - it helps our eyes train on the subject.
Again, though the frame in the photo above is very subtle, it still serves to help drive our eyes toward the model and keep them there. The textured maternity gown helps in that endeavor as well.
The result? A more interesting photo with a stronger subject. What's not to like about that?!
Get Low for a Unique Outdoor Portrait
Holly Heine Photography
Here is another super easy to implement maternity or pregnancy photoshoot idea. If you can find a suitable area where it would be comfortable for your client to sit down or even lay down, you can create a far more unique outdoor maternity portrait.
As you can see in the image above, taking a very low perspective and shooting across the landscape toward a model that's lying down creates an interesting visual story.
Not only is the model's positioning unique, but so too is the shooting position, the result of which is quite the glamorous photo.
Though this technique was used at the beach, it can work in various other locations, so long as there are elements in the foreground to provide interest.
Where the texture and pattern of the sand gives the foreground in the shot above some dimension and interest, the texture of leaves on the ground or even blades of grass could do the same for a similar shot in a local park or even the client's backyard!

Pair Rustic Locations With Formal Attire
Blue Umbrella
One of my favorite maternity photoshoot ideas is when photographers combine unexpected elements, like a very rustic setting with very formal attire for their model.
As you can see above, the forest scene offers plenty of colors, textures, and details to create a beautiful and engaging background.
Combined with the drop-dead gorgeous gown that the model is wearing, you have the makings of an outdoor maternity portrait idea that has the potential to truly wow viewers.
In this case, I like how the model's gown is of the off-the-shoulder variety, which, with the rich black color of the dress and her styled hair gives off an evening gown look that you'd expect to see on a red carpet. Learn more about profile picture ideas on our website PhotographyTalk.com.
As you can see, an unexpected pairing like that can elevate your maternity photos to another level, resulting in a high-impact portrait that your client is sure to love.
