This is the lighting breakdown to the falling snow image. Its a step by step breakdown of the lighting. Enjoy. Jay P.
#1 This is the first shot with just the Christmas lights on. I'm shooting at 1/30 of a second at F8. My ISO is 160. I use large bulbs on our man so that the lights will not need as much exposure to look good.

#2 Here is our first light. Its a Hensel Mono block with a 20 degree grid aimed at the girls face.
#3 Its purpose is to light her face while not destroy the mood of the room. It want a nice defined light on her face.
#4 You can see that Its lighting her face and not the room. This is perfect.
#5 I will now add a Hensel 500 watt mono block aimed into the celling as a bounce fill light. Its placement is off to camera right so it lights a portion of the celling that will not reflect into the window form the cameras point of view.
#6 Here is our key light on the girl and the fill light for the room.
#7 Next We added a 1200 watt Hensel Porty head with a full blue gel up high aimed at the window.
#8 We let the cord go straight up because it will be dark enough that the cord will not be seen in the shot.
#9 Here is our blue rim light now in play. Its lighting the top of her head and his body. I like the blue cast on the window seat as well.
#10 Now we are going to add a small soft box on our mans face. It will be down low so it looks like its coming form inside the room.
#11 Now we can see his face. Its looking much better.
#12 We added a rim on camera right with a blue gel. It will give us more light to rim just him. He sure looks strange hanging up there. He is suspended with gravity boots on a truss between 2 Hi Hi stands.
#13 The effect is very subtle but its there.
#14 The snow rig is loaded and ready.
#15 Now its time for falling snow as our man hangs quietly over head like a giant fruit bat..
