Photography is about being creative, but not enough photographers extend their imagination beyond taking photos. It's a hobby and a field of work that requires substantial resources, and that can be a problem. You might not afford everything you need or you just happen to be caught off guard some place without essential part of the gear anywhere near you.

To each problem its own solution. Enter, again, DIY. Imagination has made photographers come up with incredible solutions made from items that are all around us. Camera stability is one of the most common problems because we don't all travel with tripods and monopods. I'm sure not everyone's choice for an alternative would have been a string, yet it is capable of doing the job. You might want so shoot some video with your phone, and again stability is an issue.

All you need is a paper cup and a knife. Product photography can also be done on the go using a cardboard box, a white poster board, packing tape and a clamp light. All for less than $20.
