Whether you’re a sports photographer, a wildlife photographer, a photojournalist, or just a photography enthusiast in general, it’s hard not to be impressed with Canon’s EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x. Its size alone is impressive, but what’s inside it is what really has people buzzing.

Though the lens was released several years ago, Canon just recently posted an interesting video in which the lens appears to deconstruct itself.

In never before seen footage, the precise construction of the super telephoto lens is revealed slowly and beautifully, as each intricate part, from its mechanics to its optics, is blown out, so to speak, so we can get a view of what’s inside this impressive piece of glass.

Even if you don’t dabble in photography that requires this kind of lens, it’s nonetheless interesting to see all the pieces and parts that go into making fine optics.

The video itself is pretty impressive as well, with stop motion animation techniques that add to the drama of taking apart an $11,000 lens.

If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of a lens looks like, give the video below a quick look and get ready to be impressed!
