I have a lot of camera gear, and I love a lot of it. But there is one camera in my collection that gets more use in more situations than anything else: the Sony a6300.

I think it’s pretty universally accepted that Sony makes really good cameras. I have firsthand experience with this little guy, and I can tell you without equivocation that I absolutely love this thing. Let me give you my top three reasons why I hold it in such high esteem.

Size & Build

Something that I really appreciate about the Sony a6300 is its size. It’s an ideal backup camera on the days I take my Nikon D810. But, on the days when I want to go lean and mean, the a6300 is my go-to camera. In fact, whenever I travel, this is the camera that comes with me. It’s small and compact, allowing me to take a couple of lenses with the room I gain in my camera bag. And, if I want to forego my camera bag altogether, the a6300 slips nicely into my jacket pocket, even with a short lens attached to it. It’s also comfortable to hold, with an ergonomic grip that fits a variety of hand sizes for a stable, steady hold on the camera.

Beyond that, the a6300 feels like a high-end camera. Its body is made of magnesium alloy, so it’s lightweight, but it feels well-built and robust. I know that if I accidentally knock it up against something as I’m moving around, that it will take its lumps and keep on performing well. Speaking of taking its lumps, the a6300 is weather sealed, so I can go out and shoot when it’s hot, cold, windy, or raining, and be confident that the camera will be able to resist those elements.

Awesome Video Capabilities

If you want to create gorgeous 4K videos, I really can’t recommend a camera more than the Sony a6300. It’s got 4K internal recording, so whatever I’m recording goes straight to my memory card. This camera even has a slow motion feature so I can grab awesome video of my family playing in the waves on beach day and catch their reactions when the waves hit. The autofocus system is top-notch too, having 425 phase detect points, meaning when the action picks up, this little camera has no problem tracking fast-moving objects. I’ve made some of the best videos I’ve ever made with the Sony a6300, hands down.

Amazing Image Quality

It goes without saying that one of my favorite features of my Sony a6300 is the quality of the images it produces. I can shoot in low light situations with confidence, knowing that the camera sports an ISO range that extends to 51200. Better still, Sony made sure that noise is less of an issue with this camera than it was with its predecessor, the a6000, so even when I’m getting uncomfortable with the ISO I’m using, the a6300 keeps on producing amazing results. Those great results are also a product of the clear, sharp details that the camera’s BIONZ X image processor is able to create.

Another part of what helps me create improved images with this camera is the absolutely killer electronic viewfinder. It’s bright, clear, and crisp. Its resolution is stunning, to say the least, so I get a beautiful view of the scene before me that helps me get sharply focused and compose the shot just how I want. I can clearly see the subject whether I’m shooting under midday sun or by moonlight as well.

Bonus Reason - It’s Inexpensive!

Ok, so admittedly, I bought my a6300 when it first came out, so I shelled out over $1,200 for camera body. That was still a fantastic purchase in my opinion, but now you can find the very same camera body for under $1,000. That’s a great deal!

But if you want an even better deal, head over to Focus Camera for your Sony a6300 purchase. Not only is it priced under $1,000 for the body, but you also get a few freebies thrown in. Get a complimentary camera bag, a Class 10 Sony 256GB memory card, and a $100 Focus gift card as well. That’s about $220 worth of free stuff, which makes this just about the deal of the century when it comes to this camera!
