I'm a sucker for a good photographic print. Who isn't?
But I'm especially fond of canvas. In fact, my house is full of canvas prints.
And while I can take a good photo and find the best canvas printer around pretty easily, what I've had to work to figure out is how to display the darn things so that they look their best.
Bearing that in mind, I've come up with a few tips and tricks for buying and displaying canvas prints. Learn from my mistakes so your prints look great in your home!
Tips for Displaying Canvas Prints
Let's start with a few tips for displaying your canvas prints...
One of the great things about a large canvas print is that it can anchor a room and become the focal point.
But when hanging a large canvas print, you have to be sure that there's enough room around it so it doesn't feel like a giant print in a tiny space. In other words, don't hang your canvas in a way that makes it look cramped.
There's no specific size for the buffer zone around a large canvas print, but I'd say it should have at least a foot of "breathing room" around its perimeter to have its maximum impact.
Additionally, be sure that the print is the right size for the room. For example, you wouldn't hang an 8"x10" print above your fireplace as it would be far too small. Likewise, you wouldn't hang a 40"x60" print in the powder room.
When creating a collage of images on the wall, be sure to mix it up a little bit with different sizes of prints.
Hanging different sized prints allows you to break up the horizontal and vertical lines of similarly sized images to get a more authentic and natural looking display.
If you don't break up the lines, your collage could run the risk of looking a little too clinical.
What's more, having images in the collage that go together somehow helps create a cohesive look.
Perhaps they're of the same subject. They might have similar colors. Maybe they're from a single event. Whatever the case, have some sort of continuity that allows people to see the value of each print as well as the value of the collage as a whole.
Of course, one of the most essential tips for displaying your canvas prints is their position on the wall.
If it's a single print, hanging it at eye level is typically the way to go. Doing so allows you to engage with the shot without having to crane your neck up or down to look at it.
This can be difficult, though, as some people (like me) are tall and other people (like my wife) are short. In that case, do what we do and compromise on the height to accommodate both eye levels.
Tips for Buying Canvas Prints
Of course, before you have a canvas print to display, you need to make some decisions about the printing company you will use.
It's a no-brainer that you want to use a printing company that has a solid reputation for creating gorgeous products and for taking care of their customers before, during, and after the sale.
You also want a company that stands behind their product and offers a guarantee on their work.
The problem is that pretty much every company says that they do those things, but unfortunately, some don't follow through.
But unlike some of those "other guys," CanvasHQ not only produces some of the best canvases that I've ever seen, but they also stand behind their work.
I should know - I have dozens of their canvases in my home (shown above)!
So, let me break it down for you...
You Want a High-Quality Frame
The frame might go unseen, but it's of critical importance to the visual impact of the print.
With a cheap frame, you'll find that a canvas might begin to sag over time. Not with CanvasHQ, though...
Their kiln-dried fir frames and stretcher bars are built to last, so you're sure that decades down the road, the canvas will still be square and tightly stretched.
Don't make the mistake of just assuming a frame is high-quality - check it out and be sure it'll last!
"I was extremely pleased with how my canvas turned out! Excellent quality, quickly shipped and packed well. I would definitely purchase again." - Eric M., Bonner's Ferry, ID
You Want Vibrant Colors
Some canvas printing companies use second-rate inks that fade over time or get damaged by moisture. That's obviously a mistake...
Again, that's not the case with CanvasHQ.
Their inks are UV-resistant and waterproof, and when combined with their artisan-quality canvases, that makes for a visual experience that's bursting with color, contrast, and clarity.
You can even customize the look and feel of the colors and tones by selecting different finishes like glossy, semi-gloss, and matte.
You Want to Feel Cared For and Supported
I can tell you firsthand that CanvasHQ isn't just about making your memories into gorgeous canvases - they also strive at every turn to make you feel like a member of the family.
When you have a question or a problem, they actually help! There's a real, live CanvasHQ human that responds to calls and emails, so if something's up, you don't have to wait in customer care purgatory.
But the likelihood that you'll even need to contact customer service is slim, if you ask me.
"My client loved her ocean wave canvas gallery wrap! I always feel secure using CanvasHQ to fulfill my canvas orders because I know your product is excellent. Thank you!" - Paula G., Kokomo, IN
Not only do you get complimentary proofs before you buy, but if there's a problem, CanvasHQ will help you correct it.
And once you do buy, you get your prints quickly, and they come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
That means that if you don't like what you get, you either get your money back or they'll remake the print for free.
Talk about a great deal!
