Stars & star-trails in the dusk

G'day all

With the motorhome being self-contained with hot 'n cold running everything, when we stop overnight "out in the bush" we get to enjoy many lovely evenings

1)- the test shot for focus - about 20 minutes after sundown
img\def

exif- Panny FZ-2500; 30s x F5,6; ISO-400; Lens at 1x zoom / 24mm FFequiv

2)- the final blend of 360 x 1/2-minute exposures
img\def

exif- Panny FZ-2500; 3-hours x F5,6; ISO-400; Lens at 1x zoom / 24mm FFequiv

Notes .... for any of us who might like to do a startrail pic, first download the stacking program "startrails" from www-startrails-de (fix the - before typing)
It is very easy to use and the above 360 image stack took about 10-minutes of time (while I sat and had a cuppa watching it do it all by itself)

As always, feedback welcome

That's awesome. I have to try this some time. :judge: :thumbsup:

To your setup:
- Tripod with remote shutter, right?
- 360 images. Spaced how far apart?

G'day mate
See 1st image as focus test for exif data

- Tripod -> yes, definitely!!
- Remote locked  'on' -> yes
- ISO -> your choice, 200 to 1600
- Lens - wide angle mostly
- Aperture -> F2,8 to F5,6 depending on lens
- Shutter -> 30 secs
- Continuous -> yes
- JPG not RAW (it's a black sky, you don't need RAW !!!)

So after 3 or 4 test pics for focus (ie- electronic focus lens does not have an infinity setting), set focus and use tape to prevent any focus shift from finger accidents.  Once happy, set Remote to 'continuous' and go inside and enjoy a good wine or cuppa.  Come out every 1/2- hour to listen to click-shutter-click-shutter, smile that all-is-okay and enjoy more wine. Eventually battery will die, so take it all indoors, upload images, watch the software stacking them. Save as either TIFF or JPG and continue as per regular images

Have fun & enjoy life :)
