This is your first one that actually does need HDR. To bring the white back in the background.

In RAW you can blend two RAW outputs (one adjusted over, with one adjusted under).

Not for the HDR look, but to bring the tones back.

Or not...? Depends what is back there.

Easy to do with Smart Objects.

No it doesn't need HDR MLK.

Just leave it. It's artistic.

It depends. The details outside might look bad. Can't tell now.

But I would at least bring the interior lights down a tad, and MAYBE try to save the outdoors.

Otherwise, it will print with a big white BLOB that draws your eye away from anything else.

Me thinks. :)

What I'm starting to realize w/the B&W digital or converted images what I don't care for is that they often don't look black and white, they look like shades of gray. I just don't see a 'black black' here. I haven't tried digital B&W but I can even see a difference sometimes in photos I had done at a lab and what I did in the darkroom. Of course there are always exceptions, but a truly B&W film photo would most of the time have a 'black black' and a 'white white' even if it's a really small part of the image, that's what you go by to get the correct exposure.

Exactly. A full tonal range is what the Zone System is all about. With digital, we use the histogram instead, and sometimes multiple exposures, in order to see ALL the tones in front of us.

Is this why mono conversion software is out there? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
