Canon R6 won't lock onto my face??

2 years 6 months ago #727192 by Uplander
A buddy of mine is selling his R6 to fund a R5.  He has let me borrow the camera for the weekend to see if I like it.  Now one thing I have noticed, is that when I have the camera in face detect, it wasn't following me at all.  I could step in the view of the AF frame and the frame would move.  It wasn't till I removed the battery and reinstalled it before the camera started to work properly.

Any thoughts on this?

Did you say you have the AF set to "Face" ?

G'day Conner

So-called 'face detect mode' is common across just about all cameras - and it works with varying precision across a variety of lighting / scene zones

I am a little confused, you said it wasn't following me..? Are you talking about photo stills mode or video mode? Are you shooting into a mirror in stills? Do you have the rear display pointing forward and doing video? There are different menu systems when you switch from stills to video and they don't automatically have the same AF modes. Are you using custom function buttons. when the camera turn off or "sleeps" which is temporarily turning off, the settings you put into the camera could change.
