Canon 50mm 1.8 vs 1.2 Showdown!

2 years 5 months ago #728771 by Alex
In today’s video I’ll take a head-to-head look at the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM. While these two lenses are VERY different in terms of pricing and features, it isn’t a given that the f/1.2L is the better lens for every situation or every photographer. Join me for a look at both lenses and an examination of sample images so you can decide for yourself which of these excellent lenses is right for you. Stick around until the end of the video to learn all about our current giveaway too!

I have 2 50mm 1.4 EF Mount for my R5. The old Canon EF 1.4 has much better subject isolation than the RF 1.8 and is closer to the RF 50 1.2
but it is soft and dreamy wide open, I like the effect sometimes, but my
favorite is the 2008 version of the Sigma 50 1.4 EX DG, which you can
find cheap. like 50-150 bucks (200 on mpb). It does not focus well on a
DSLR hit or miss, but if you turn off lens correction and IS on the R5
focus accuracy goes way up. It is pretty sharp in the center wide open
and beats the RF at 1.8. It is nother option if you are willing to deal
with the settings changes in the R5

Have you compared the RF 50mm to the EF 50mm?

That 1.2 is a very nice lens.   I have a friend who uses it for portraits and she loves it.  A bit heavy, but manageable.
