How much RAM in your computer 2019?

I'm running 16gb and my computer still seems to struggle with heavier processing.  What are you using in your computer for RAM in 2019?

I have 32 GB. Plenty for everything but video
productions… I don't play in these waters.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

G'day Glen

My Toshy laptop still runs very nicely on W-7 and 4Gb of RAM :)

A Ryzen 7-based desktop with an NVidia 1070 display adapter, 2 SSDs, and NVME SSD, and 5 large drives (about 11TB of storage, total).

I can't work on a laptop. I need a real system with real (i.e. not toy) keyboard.

Now that's a machine.  So what do you use when traveling?

RAM is random access memory. Useful for running a lot of tasks at once or storing a lot of information for quick access. For photo editing, a fast CPU will be more important, as that's what is responsible for a lot of the calculations made in complex processing. A good GPU doesn't hurt either. By the way, it's not only the amount of RAM, but the speed (that's another topic altogether).

During our recent trip to Ireland, I shot RAW+JPG, transferred the JPGs to an iPad to tweak/crop and post on FB. Everything else waited until I got home.

I've taken a laptop with me on trips, but I find the entire editing process to be painful with that tool. But I don't own a high-power portable, so perhaps that's the problem. It wouldn't really get used much, so I have trouble with the idea of spending $1500 on something that would be idle most of the time. Mayhaps I'll have the funds next year to justify...

Yes, of course. But the amount of RAM will dictate how much overflow has to go to disk (either a solid state or spinny device) so all of that is a separate factor when it comes to performance. So it's a reasonable question.

RAM + Processor =over all faster and smoother

If one is slow, it can feel like it’s throttling the other.

photoediting software is very CPU intense.

Not having any issues with the 12 in my Acer. It is a couple of years old and the only upgrade has been a 1TB SSD. That upgrade made it scream. Running Affinity but also have Corel, Photomatrix and PortraitPro when they better suit the need. I may look at going to 16 if the unit allows.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
