Looking for good camera for beginners

Hi

I am looking for a not too expensive DSLR or mirrorless camera suitable for a beginner (maybe in the range of 400-700$). As you may have guessed I do not really have a lot of experience with photography, so some help would be very appreciated ;)  .

So far two cameras have caught my eye:  The Nikon D3400 and the Olympus EM-10 mark ii.

The first one seems to be the bog standard entry level DSLR. The other one I found interesting as it is mirrorless yet still relatively cheap.

I will mainly be using the camera for photography outside in the mountains, as I do a lot of mountaineering and rock climbing (which is also the reason for me wanting to get in to photography).

I would love to hear some of your thoughts on the topic! Thank you for your help

The Oly will be smaller and noticeably lighter. But until you go to a store and hold them in your hands, see how the feel, experiment with the controls and the menus, you won't really know which system and product is right for you.

If you do got Nikon (or Canon) consider finding a prior version of their entry-level product. A Nikon D3200 would be perfectly suitable for a beginner shooting outside. Then get yourself a good 35mm f/1.8 lens.
