Lets revisit RAW vs JPEG

I just printed a photo tonight that was taken as a JPEG, the print looks incredible.  In terms of print quality, in 2024 how close are JPEG files to the quality or resolution of RAW files?

It depends. With my Sony a6000, out of camera RAW and JPEG files look pretty much the same. Upon comparing the two files zoomed in at 100%, the JPEG will be slightly fuzzier. From my experience, JPEG files are lower resolution. The actual image quality can vary from camera to camera, though. Out of curiosity, which camera/phone did you use to take the photo?

Totally depends on your camera settings and if you're talking about RAW after post processing or before processing.

Two totally different file types for two totally different uses. 2024 has nothing to do with it, bottom line you can do more with raw files as they contain more data. Jpegs have two advantages over raw: they are smaller and they are immediately usable i.e. require no editing. But beyond that raw is king.

Yep, you can put me down for the same.  The only time I use JPEG is when shooting family stuff or farting around with my iPhone.
