I have not ever used an editing program. And I do not think I am ready to buy one, but I would like to try one of the free programs. So what is the best free editing program to try?

Picasa by Google
It is easy to use finds every photo on your hard drive so when you open Picasa it has a link to every photo in one place, it does not move them but acts as an index to them all.
Any adjustments done can be undone as a copy of the original is kept.

I still use it for quick editing and use photoshop for the special stuff
Picasa free download

Does a trial download of Lightroom 3 count? If so it is by far the easiest way to organize and do small and easy edits to your photos. It can really make the difference when youre trying to do quick and easy batch edits too. Cannot say enough about this program

My favorite is Faststone Image. Picassa is good so is Infraview, Gimp just to name 4. Try them all and see what you like. Picassa is nice because you can have a Picasa Web site free too, and store your pics there. Plus you can edit in Piknik from the Picasa Web site. It's also very easy to download you photos to various forums like this one from Picasa.

I'm a big fan of GIMP when it comes to free editors. Ofcourse, you can always get the trial version of cs5, and have THE high end editor fully functional for 30 days.
