Anyone have good luck with directly mailing list?

I've noticed there are companies that will sell local mailing list of opt in people. I was thinking about picking up a list, have some nice cards printed and mass mail (regular post office mail, not email) these post cards with special about my company.

I'm just wondering how effective this might be? I know myself, that it needs to be a very catchy deal for me to pay much attention to when I get from mail. What do you think about this? Good investment?

I worked in Advertising / Direct Mail back in the 90's before the I-net. I also worked with several companies that attempted large scale DM campaigns in the 0's. In both situations I can tell you that the average response rate for a fabulous DM piece is .5-1%.

Given the cost of your mailing pieces, are you looking at this as a way to spread name/brand awareness or are you asking for some actual customer action. If its the former...perhaps it may be worth something, if you are looking to send them an offer and expect for them to take action on it...ask yourself when the last time you responded to a DM piece was....

Long story short... DM is dead....cost a ton...and delivers no results.

:agree: it's been years since I've had any interaction with direct mail advertising, but back in the day we would consider a good campaign to have 1% response. Just like many forms of advertising that come and go, this form has really gone years ago. I'd invest elsewhere.
