Pricing digital files

7 years 5 months ago #505632 by Mocattle
I've been doing photography for about four years but seriously pursued freelancing this last year. I'm trying to decide what I should charge for digital files. I primarily market prints to my customers but as everyone knows, digital files for social media, etc are becoming more and more popular.
I have three different areas where I market digital files:
-family, senior, etc portraits
-magazines
-farms and businesses for advertising and marketing

Currently, I charge $125 for a business license which gives rights to use the photos for any business or marketing purpose in any distribution channel. The only thing they can't do is reprint the image.
I charge $100 for a personal license which includes 10 digital files. If customers purchase $250 or more in prints, they get digital files free.

I know I'm on the cheap side of pricing and I'm planning to adjust my rates at beginning of the year, I'm just having a hard time deciding what is a fair amount and don't want to spike prices on repeat customers who are used to these numbers.
Any input on what an appropriate price range would be and how to I increase my rates without making a huge jump and scaring off repeat customers?

Thanks

The answer is contingent on factors like how much your annual salary happens to be and what sort of time you're going to devote to to each file. I don't do a whole lot of commercial work myself, but I'd suggest doing a bit of research online on how others are pricing their files.
