Topi on a mound

Topi (Coke Hartebeest) are often though of as the Guardian of the herd. They are normally the ones to warn the buffalo, zebra and wildebeest of predators. They also tend to be quite brave and take a stance on old ant hills to get a better view of the area.

I'm king of the mountain!  Let's not overlook the perfectly blurred background and just curiosity factor!!  

When you say "brave" is that because they stand out more?  I notice that 2 others in the background are on the huge ant hills as well.   BTW, incredible shot.

Thanks, no I mention brave because I have seen them heading toward lions they have spotted rather than running away (some would say stupid rather then brave lol)

I think it just part of their evolution to seek higher ground for a look out point

Gotcha, was curious if the lions you mentioned went after them or did they leave the Topi alone.
