Croc vs Zebra

3 months 1 week ago #761135 by bryanpereira
An exciting encounter on my last photo safari. The zebra ventured in a few times so I got to see the action repeat and get lots of images. The light was good and I was quite close so it was easy to shoot, just had to do some minor repositioning of the vehicle.

So the zebras know those crocs are in there?  So why not go another route?  BTW amazing action shot.

Pretty sure this spot is the most narrow and these animals travel off of instinct.

Normally yes however this wasnt a river crossing, simply a small tempting pool on a hot day. Just around the corner was another with about 5 zebra happily drinking and no crocs. They just have a super short memory,  they went in around five times with less then 30 seconds between each croc attack, and mostly the same zebra too.

Can a croc eat an entire zebra in one sitting or is that a meal for the crocs family?

This croc was big so I think it could handle most of it eventually, drag it to the shore and finish it after its drowned. I saw lots of bubbles so I suspect there were at least 3-4 crocs in the water. It wouldnt have lasted long if it had got taken
