Are Sigma lenses a good alternative to Nikon lenses?

I've always been a Nikon glass sort of guy, but with economy where it is, I'm starting to consider other options.  Any of you running Sigma lenses on your Nikon bodies?

What has been that experience and what advice would you give?

Well in the world of aftermarket or 3rd party lenses, Sigma is a well-respected lens manufacturer that offers a wide range of lenses for Nikon cameras. Many professional photographers use Sigma lenses as a cost-effective alternative to Nikon's own lenses, as they can offer similar or better image quality at a lower price point.

Some Sigma lenses are considered to be equal or even better than Nikon lenses in terms of image quality, build quality, and performance. For example, the Sigma Art series lenses are highly regarded for their sharpness, bokeh, and color accuracy.

However, it's important to note that not all Sigma lenses are of equal quality, and some may not perform as well as their Nikon counterparts. As with any lens, it's best to research and compare individual lenses to determine which one will meet your specific needs and requirements.

So there you have my 2 cents, Sigma can be a good alternative to Nikon lenses, but the quality and performance of individual lenses can vary greatly, so it's important to do your research and choose the right lens for your needs.

I guess it depends on the lens, they have some really nice lenses.  I have a buddy who has all Sigma lenses with his Nikon with the exception of his 50mm, which is an actual Nikon lens.  He swears by the brand.

Remind me which brand was recently in the news because they don't want 3rd party manufactures making lenses?  Was that Nikon or Canon?
