OMD EM5 Histogram questions

5 years 1 month ago #639245 by jrickards
I bought a used EM5 (original model) and am loving it and am learning to use the histogram but I have some questions about the histogram.

(1) The histogram can show (depending on the exposure) orange bars to the right (blown out, ok, I understand that), white bars showing the relative amount of light across the luminance spectrum but the green bars that show up under the white bars, I'm not sure what they mean. Can you clarify?

(2) I've tried to use the histogram in low light situations and even if I move the shutter speed to 5, 10 or even 30 seconds, although the histogram shifts to the right with longer exposure, I don't get any orange bars to the right but I'm sure that some portion of the image would have been blown out. Is this an error in my camera or what?

Thanks

Histogram display
A histogram showing the distribution of brightness
in the image is displayed. The horizontal axis
gives the brightness, the vertical axis the number
of pixels of each brightness in the image. Areas
above the upper limit at shooting are displayed in
red, those below the lower limit in blue, and those
within the spot metering range in green.

Thank you for the reply.

I haven't seen the blue but I'll look for it.

What is meant by "within the spot metering range"?
