Travel Photography?

12 years 5 months ago #180503 by SP65 Art
I'm going on a trip for work, but I am taking my camera so I can shoot during my town time. What lens would you bring if you could only bring one lens. I really wanna pack light and am thinking of buying a new lens that would be used specifically for travelling.

So any suggestions?

When I travel and need to pack a DSLR light....

camera body. Black electrical tape over the branding and generic camera strap.
light-weight zoom lens with a wide focal range. Not necessarily fast aperture.
compact prime lens 50mm for low light work.
small compact table tripod.
Regular looking camera bag.

It will be hard to make suggestions if we don't know what camera you shoot with...

The 24-70 in your bag is a good one for landscape, street and people. You didn't mention your destination and what types of things you expect to shoot. That will make a big difference.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I have a Canon 7D with 24-70. The only lens I have, just wondering if I should pick up another lens.

Work is sending me to Las Vegas. Never been there, so I thought I would get some shots. I'll be shooting whatever I come across.

Las Vegas, that is awesome. Don't forget to gamble a little. Walking about the streets of las vegas the lens you have should do just fine.

Vegas, leave the camera in the room and hit the tables!!! You will be fine shooting with the 24-70. There are plenty of things to shoot in Vegas and Im sure you will have a blast. The Billagio has a fantastic glass botanical garder looking thing inside the casino. I will be heading there in March myself and cant wait to go back.

Work has me staying at a comfort inn right outside of vegas. So although I won't be staying in one of the nice casinos, I won't be too far away that I can't visit vegas itself.

Ah cool, just take a cab to the strip and then you can go to any casino and catch one back to the hotel. Make sure you post up some photos when you get back, I never get tired of seeing Vegas

Used "kit" lenses (18-55) are readily available at dirt cheap prices. They may not be the best lenses but that will stretch you dollars and give you a bit more flexibility.
Kelly is right but you have to live within your means. Canons can be had from KEH for about $65 in Excellent condition.

Me thinks you should take your D7 everywhere you go,
esp at nite !

Two things:
* Tie your cam to your ass.
Vegas is noted for pick-pocketing & theft.
* Don't shoot in casinos
(btw now that I think of it, they may not let you take a cam
into casinos ..... am I right ??) ....

Oh yah 3 .... win lots-a $$$$ for more glass.
Have fun! ..............
